INSTITUE AT GSC
The Garment Design and Training Services Center "GSC" partnered up with ‘Istituto di Moda Burgo’ to deliver the Pattern-making and Fashion Sketching programs.
Pattern making is an art. It is the art of manipulating and shaping a flat piece of fabric to conform to one or more curves of the human figure. Pattern making is a bridge function between design and
production. A simple sketch can be turned into a garment via a
pattern which interprets the design in the form of the garment
This course introduces students to the essentials they will need for designing various articles of clothing with an emphasis on flat patternmaking. Students will familiarize themselves with the basic silhouettes from which to begin their design, as well as with a variety of fabrics and stitching techniques.
Some of the work will be performed with a sewing machine while other work may involve hand-sewing.
Students will study further into the basic components of patternmaking. They will develop an understanding of body measurements and the uniqueness of each human body in relation to clothing fit. By using mock-up garments students will create variations of samples of clothing with which they can experiment with different styles of patternmaking.
This introductory class provides instruction on how to render fashion figures and garments through a variety of media and techniques Students will go through the steps of creating a fashion collection; starting with inspiration, moodboards, textures, fabric and color. By the end of the course, students should be capable of drawing the basic 9-head figure, in addition to adding detail and design while maintaining accurate representation, proportion, tone and depth. One month will be dedicated to learn basic digital sketching and illustration techniques on Photoshop.
This 4 month sketching course illustrates all coloring and fashion drawing techniques, opening the door to imagination and consequently the creation of different types of clothes and accessories. During the sketching program the students will be expected to engage in a lot of practical exercises. Although the advent of design technology has made it easier to create sketches, fashion sketching remains one of the first skills a fashion design student must master.
